Evernight Moved – DNS Rollout In Process (Update)

Many of you have been able to get back into Evernight, but a few may not have..Player settings, subscriptions, admin, and feedback appear to be offline right now.

If you are having problems in any other sections (e.g. Mail or Newsgroups), you need to try this procedure:
1. START – RUN
2. Type in CMD and hit OK
3. In the black box that comes up type: IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS
4. Once it finishes (takes about a second) close that window
5. Shut down IE and restart it

If someone can’t get into evernight and they can contact you, likely it is because the address isn’t replicated to everyone’s ISP. You can get into evernight at http:\\65.61.119.225 as well, though you can’t do much until it replicates.

Systems geeks can fix this temporarily by adding

65.61.119.225 www.evernightgame.com

Into the hosts file. Instructions at http://accs-net.com/hosts/how_to_use_hosts.html In any case, all games have been moved to tick no sooner than Monday 6/26 at 12:00:01 AM, game times have been retained and just moved to the 26th..

The site is back up and running, but the DNS is still propigating across the internet. Everyone should have access soon, but since it is delayed longer than expected we will probably cancel Mag7 ticks on Sunday.

It appears we are not back up yet. I will be following up with the ISP right away and working on this until we are up and running. The servers are all connected and back online. We're working on setting up the DNS so you can get to the site and should have everthing back up shortly. It is around 2 am here, so if I can get another post in before bed I will. Regardless of whether I post again tonight, the site should be up normally in the morning except that I need to make some settings changes for maps to work. More coming soon.

I just spoke to the ISP and the servers containing Evernight are in a van and being moved to the new facility. Best guess is still a few hours away – I will update again in a little while.

Evernight Moving To a New Server Location

We are moving our servers to a new location tonight and it will require us to be shut down at 7:00 pm game time (1900). The game will be down for a couple hours and then it might take a few more hours for everyone to pull up the new DNS. We will shut off ticks at 1900 game time and any games scheduled to tick after that time will be rescheduled for Monday. Game scheduled for Saturday ticks will be moved to Sunday as well so everyone can get back online. While the site is down, we will post updates to www.myspace.com/evernightgame so you can see where we are at. Sorry for the suddenness of the move – we were supposed to get more notice from the ISP.

Epoch Blitz

We will be running Epoch Blitz a bit more regularly, it has been templated and will be set to run approximately every three weeks. Hence you will see the numbers of these back in the single digits..Each version may have a small twist, this one is ELIM and NTBB, next one will be… Well, we will know in three weeks!

Evernight Fundraiser

In order to raise money to add new content to the game, we have decided to sell region naming rights, not unlike when you go to a sports stadium and it is named after a corporation. Here is how it will work:Region names are created from syllables which are lumped together by a region name generator program to create region names. For instance, Golbyntvoid Falls would be a Gol + bynt + void + Falls. Some syllables are special, like Falls in this example, and will then only be part of region name as a complete word. All syllables also can be specified to be universal (all land type) or linked to a specific region type (Falls only works for Water regions). So, if we were to add 'Dran' to the syllables table as a forest syllable, we might have a region generate called Dranbyntvoid Deadwoods or something like that.

For a donation of $20, you can choose a syllable that will forever be enshrined in the region name database. You must pick a region type to go with your syllable. We would prefer submissions where the syllable to be added is short (3-6 characters). We will accept longer submissions if they are specifically relevent to the region type, for example 'Quix Sands' was submitted and accepted as a Dunes syllable. We will make the decision whether to designate a syllable as a special and will only do so if it makes logical sense, like in the above example.

If you send money without choosing a region type, we will choose one for you. We reserve the right to reject a submission if we think it is inappropriate in any fashion; if we do, we will give you a chance to change the submission or return the money at our option.

If you wish to make a donation, you can either mail a money order or use the 'Send Money' option in PayPal. If using PayPal, send to admin@evernightgame.com. We don't have a way to accept payment for this via credit card at this time. Please be sure to let us know your LoginID, the syllable you wish to add, and the region type you want it assigned to when you submit payment.

we've put a few games out especially with the new player in mind.

Age of Heroes.

an Experience restricted game, min exp 2, Max 89.
NFG, NA, NC, 8 winners for purse of 42, GAIA terrain(very few impassables)

Also Note, Most Templated games have Min 2 to join.

Magnificent 7 Runs 7 days, NA, NC, NFG, NTG, pretty much a stand alone format.
Min exp is 2 & theres always one of these on the join games list.

Timepiece of chron also has a min 2, it runs 3 days a week, monday, wednesday & friday.
It's an allegience game with 2 followers & a huge purse, great for those who don't have tons of spare time but still like to play.

The fab 5's (weekday version of mag 7) along with the haphazard theologies & any Free for all games that appear from time to time also have min 2.

Madnergal and Library of Midia

We have added buttons to the lobby page so everyone can access Madnergal and the Library of Midia. Speaking of the Library… it is back! We have some cleanup to do to it and it might take a couple days to upload the data from the time it was down, but we are working on it and expect a fully restored and renovated Library soon. If you aren't familiar with the Library, check it out. It houses players' game histories, stats on all kinds of interesting things, and a citadel tracker for active games. Enjoy!

Protect Your Password

This is just a reminder that there is a very valid reason that unsubscribed players are not allowed to substitute for other players. If you give out your password to get around this limitation you invite that other player to abuse your trust and your account access. Please be smart online and do not share your password with other Evernight players. Ongoing Free Games To End January 1st 2006

Notification:

As of January 1st all ongoing free games will end. Essentially this is the 1 game free that some of you have been playing over the past year. You can complete any game you start before January 1st but after that time, your account will go inactive unless you subscribe. Instead we are going to put "free" where it belongs…into a returning Veteran campaign to be launched in the next few weeks. Many old names will be recognized and they will have the opportunity to join ANY 3 games…including some of the awesome, custom creations of Lord Manticore!

The hardware crash over the summer took its toll on our resources (financial as well as hardware and time) and the overall strength of the community took a hit during that down time as well. The Good news is now we are running better than ever from a technical, game design and admin support standpoint. We ask all of you who love the game to please support us so we can regrow the community and continue to re-invest in game improvements and enhancements. We love this game and plan to keep it going for many years!

Thank you, and let's all take a moment over the holidays to remember our fallen brother Twonkey. His presence in the game will be missed. Lastly, let's all say a prayer or give a positive thought to Ducky in his mission overseas. Come back to us soon Ducks…safe, sound and feisty as ever!

Billing Notification

Recently, those of you who are paying for thier membersip via PayPal have been getting multiple notifications from Billing about various updates to your account.

Paypal billing is "externally driven", meaning that all activites that occur within the system are initiated by PayPal … not from within our site. The way this works, is that whenever someone's subscription is renewed, or any other status changes occur, the PayPal servers call a script on our servers to notify us of the change.

Usually this only occurs once per transaction, database entries are updated, and notification emails are sent. Recently, however (apparently due to some glitch at PayPal), they have been hitting our server MULTIPLE times (sometime in excess of 20 times) per event. As a result, a notification gets sent with every hit.

First, I want to assure all of you that your accounts are not being multiply billed, you are simply being multiply notified. You can confirm this fact for yourself by logging into your PayPal account and reviewing your payment history. If anybody discovers that they have in-fact been multiply billed by PayPal, please contact Dranden immediately, and we will issue a refund.

Second, PayPal has been notified of this issue, and are (presumably) looking into resolving thier issues on thier and. For the time being … all PayPal Billing notification emails have been disabled within our system to stop this inconvenience until PayPal has fixed thier system. You should still receive PayPal notifications from PayPal directly at the email address you have provided to them for any transactions that occur.

Third, those of you who are paying by Credit Card should be unaffected by this issue. No changes have been made to the Credit Card billing system, and you should continue to receive status updates as you have in the past.

Thank you for your patience while we attempt to get this issue resolved.

Evernight Newsgroup Moderators

As many people have asked that Evernight staff moderators for the newsgroups to help where help is needed, two individuals have stepped foreward and are now our official moderators!Rishib and Mangus have volunteered (that would be a mix of voluntary asked for this position and continuing to pay their normal subscription fee) their time to help us all!!

From me? Three cheers, hip hip hooray!! The wicket witch is dead and all that! (yes, I spelled it wrong on purpose, sorry, but I didn't want to offend the other kind of witches).. Evernight Membership Policy

Effective 7/1/2005:

Evernight is the most challenging massively multiplayer strategy game available on the market!

Membership in the game has its rewards, including the ability to play in 8 games simultaneously, access to all newsgroups, participation in invitation only games, reviews, sub rights, and access to all game formats.

Individuals who have not yet subscribed may join one "Free Join" game at a time after their "My First Evernight Game" concludes. Free join players may participate in several of the common newsgroups, and have full access to lobby and in-game e-mail. The Free to Join promotion has been a success over the past few months and we will continue this benefit it brings to our players!
